Am I Diversified Enough?
Owning a lot of things is not the same as owning a lot of jobs. Four questions: which jobs your money already does, whether you have written the split down, and the one thing a picture of what you own can never show you. Nothing leaves this page.
What decides how your money is split?
Not what you own — what governs what you own. This is the single question that separates a portfolio from a pile, and it is the one thing this quiz can grade honestly.
Which of these does your money already do?
Tick what is genuinely there today, not what you mean to add. An honest gap is the useful answer — it is the only one you can act on.
Write the split down
What this is, and what it is not
This is a draft: a set of targets with no tolerance recorded against them, so until you set one, any distance at all reads as out of band. That is the strict reading and it can only ever penalise you, never flatter. Bands, purpose, dates and a successor are what turn a draft into a Charter.
Is any of it borrowed?
Here is the thing a picture of what you own cannot show you. Borrowing does not sit in one slice of the book — it sits across all of them, and it decides whether a bad quarter is something you sit through or something you are sold out of.
A remembered figure is enough to place you on the scale. It is not enough to govern by — that reading takes two numbers off your broker's screen, and there is a tool below that does it properly.
